Tetrix
|
|
I
first played Tetris on a Nintendo. The regular original,
pixilated NES. And I thought it rocked. This new version is
an online multiplayer game and it really rocks.
There are extra features use to one's advantage or
against opponents plus a chat function. Up to six may play simultaneously.
Nice looking, too. See the screenshot.

Pong?
|
|
One
of the original graphics (as opposed to text) -based
games, this puts a new twist on it by changing the
perspective. Using Macromedia Shockwave, it plays online
so works on any platform. Take a peek; expect to be
surprised.

gridlock

Move
the blocks around to free the blue block. Deceptively
simple in concept, this game, based on the board game
Rush Hour, will stimulate your thinking process while
rewarding you for your logic skills and it's a kick in
the pants to boot. It's downloadable and works on all
Windows (even Mac ), but plays so well online with your
browser, why bother?

AllFive
2000 (Yahtzee)
|
|
If
you know Yahtzee, you can skip reading the instructions
'cause you'll feel right at home with AllFive 2000. This
version is great looking, will play one of 45 music
tracks or your own tunes, accommodates up to four
players and even allows customizing the background. OK,
it's still just Yahtzee, but the game has never looked
(or sounded) better. Works with all flavors of Windows.

The
Flying Cow
|
|
What
are you going to do with all that spare time on your
hands? Fling a cow, of course! This is goofy fun. Try to
beat the SailCat's score of 450, but be aware that I had
to play this thing at least a dozen times to get the
hang of it (maybe more, I'm a busy 'Cat). I'll spare you
the puns, just go give it a fling.

Hit
or Stand
|
|
While
not a player myself, it is my understanding that of the
casino games, Blackjack, if played properly, may yield a
profit on the long term. This is a tutorial which
advises the player whether or not the proper play has
been made. Played for points, you don't win (or lose)
any money. There is enticement to online casinos at the
site, but if you get hooked, check back & the 'Cat
will 12-step you out of there. Requires Flash.

Arse
Race
|
|
It
can't get more stupid than this. Come on, you've got
better things to do than race rear ends. Yep, it's a
butt race. Players start with $500 and bet on a series
of races, either winning big or losing their hindmost
quarters in the process. There's actually strategy
involved, so read the instructions. Flash, sense of
humor and open mind required.

Basketball, Darts, that stupid 8-Ball fortune-telling thingy

office has those annoying metal pendulum balls that
clack together on their desktop?

user-defined. Whadaya want? It's a toy. There are many
add-ons available at the website. Win 9x/NT.

sodaplay
|
|
This
was almost excluded from the new list as a site
everybody's already seen. A quick visit to the soda
website proved that these folks have not been idle. They
have created new models with which to
play, and now allow visitors to download models and animate
them as well as providing all the tools necessary for users to create new
models and upload them. It's still unique and a better
time-waster than ever!

MONO*crafts
3.0
|

With
a name like yugop, there's just gotta be something
special here. Different approaches and experiments, much
of it created in interactive Flash media. Describing
this as a 'toy' might be a stretch, but it's fun,
useless. I didn't want to exclude it and I have no place
else to put it. Find out for yourself. My favorite is
number 16.

Mini-Putt
|
|
It's
miniature golf, which is as just what it is, but this
one's good-looking (built with Flash) and plays online
which means no software to install. allow up to two
minutes for the page to load on a dial-up connection.
From the fine minds at Harvard.
